The Adobe Camera Raw plug-in became the latest must-have tool for professional photographers when it was released in February 2003. This powerful plug-in has been frequently updated to support more cameras and include more features and is available as part of Adobe Photoshop CS6. Note 1: For any version of Adobe Premiere Elements, you can import supported digital camera raw images but you cannot access the Camera Raw dialog box. Note 2: After Effects 7 includes version 3.2.0.1 of the Camera Raw plug-in, which was designed solely for use with After Effects 7. You cannot update the Camera Raw plug-in for After Effects 7.

Adobe Camera Raw is very easy to install. Simply unzip the archive and copy the file into your CS5 File Formats folder.Note that it is only compatible with Photoshop CS5 although when you click download here, links are provided for versions that work with CS4, CS3 and Photoshop Elements 8. Download and install the Camera Raw plug-in. Note: If you still haven't been able to successfully update the Camera Raw plug-in for currently supported versions of Adobe applications, use the Camera Raw 13.0 installer below.

  3. Double-click the resulting .exe file to start the installer.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Alongside the Lightroom 6 and CC updates, Adobe has announced Camera Raw 9.1.1 for Photoshop CC and CS6 users. The new update adds RAW file support for the following cameras:

Additionally, it adds a number of lens profile updates and bug fixes. You can download the update via the update menu in Photoshop CS6 or the Creative Cloud app.

Adobe also announced that it was ending Camera Raw support for CS6 customers with this final release. Recall that when Adobe made the move to Photoshop CC as an exclusive upgrade path that it promised to continue to provide Camera Raw support for Photoshop CS6 customers.

While new features have continued to be added to Camera Raw for Photoshop CC customers since Camera Raw 8.1 back in 2013, Photoshop CS6 customers have been able to continue to use the product with their new cameras’ RAW files to date.

Adobe made the following statement in announcing the end of Camera Raw support for Photoshop CS6 users.

In order to pursue further innovations in image processing and workflow technology, the next release of Adobe Camera Raw (v 9.1.1) will be the final version available for use with CS6. Customers can utilize the free Adobe DNG Converter utility to receive the very latest camera support for CS6 and older versions of our software going all the way back to Photoshop CS1 and Lightroom 1.0.
